Postdoc in in Geospatial Systems and Application Development
APPLY online at ornl (dot) gov ORNL07-42-CSED Project Description: The Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks candidates for several postdoctoral and postmasters positions in geospatial application development. Applicants should have experience with the design and development of geospatial applications using both proprietary and open source components. Experience developing desktop and web based interfaces, services, and analytical applications which use spatiao-temporal data is required. Also, and understanding of relational databases and system administration is desired. The successful candidate will be expected to be innovative and creative in the developing of new research ideas and to participate in the proposals development process for potential funding of research projects. Qualifications: Applicants must have a master?s degree in geographic information systems, environmental engineering, or computer science. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. Other requirements: ?Strong understanding of GIS and spatial application development, geospatial data formats and software, and desktop and web based application development. ?Strong programming skills in C# or JAVA is a requirement. Knowledge of relational database and/or parallel computing will be an added advantage. ?Candidates should have excellent oral and written communications skills and a desire to work in a collaborative applied research environment.
