Senior Geologist

Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) has an immediate need for a Senior Geologist in our Raleigh, NC office. This position is full-time, 40 hours a week Monday-Friday. ESI is a woman-owned small business enterprise specializing in environmental matters. The firm has been in business for 28 years with its headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. ESI provides quality responsive services in a variety of disciplines including wetlands, protected species, mitigation services, cultural resource assessments, soil science investigations, environmental contamination, stream restoration, forest management and agricultural services, greenhouse gas qualification, carbon offsets and sustainability. Through our commitment to quality, responsiveness and diversity, ESI is a leading environmental consulting firm regionally and internationally.

This position will require the individual to perform oversight and coordination of soil and groundwater assessment and remediation projects in the public and private sectors. This position directs and coordinates activities of one or more projects, and aids the office manager in administering organization policies. Will have the experience to create and drive a diverse organization to support and complement the existing successful business.

Essential Job Duties:
Manage projects, develop and maintain client relations, and mentor ESI staff.
Actively market services to ensure adequate backlog for technical staff.
Lead property transaction assessments and a wide range of other specialized tasks relative to contamination identification, investigation, management and remediation.
Evaluate and determine the appropriate delivery systems and most cost effective plan and schedule for completing the project on time and under budget.
Manage budget to ensure timely completion and no cost overruns.
Plan, assign, and supervise the work of all ESI employees involved with the project and all related sub-contractors.
Assist with the negotiations with private businesses in contracting for services.
Provide client communications debriefs during projects.
Design site-specific Health and Safety Plans and maintain OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Design and manage data collection and coordination.
Work with the Office Manager to plan business objectives, to coordinate functions and operations between offices, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.

Specific Experience:
Must have proven business development experience.
Must have at least 3 years of demonstrated effective project management experience and the ability to manage projects from concept to design to completion.
Must have working relationships with North Carolina regulators as demonstrated through specific project review and approval interactions.
Knowledge of managing clients is required, as well as entering into contract agreements.
Comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
Ability to develop proposals, budgets, remedial action plans, and natural attenuation monitoring plans for complex projects.
Knowledge of financing, arranging financing agreements is a plus.
Demonstrated experience in contract administration.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, employees, supervisors, contractors, and clients.
Excellent management and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage staff and to complete concurrent projects on time and within budget.
Demonstrated experience in staff training and development.
Must be self-motivated and able to motivate others.
Communicates effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience, including reports.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Basic knowledge of GIS and graphics programs.
Identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implements solutions.
Prepares analytical data and reports with objectivity, conciseness, and clarity; verifies and validates source data and conclusions for accuracy and reasonableness.
Careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
Ability to interpret maps and read a compass.

Education, Experience, Certifications, Registrations or Licensure:
Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science in Geology
Current PG registration in North Carolina
At least 6-8 years of applicable experience in a site assessment and remediation consulting environment
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred

Physical Requirements of the Job:
Typically works in outdoors environment, which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.
As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to pass general physically fit testing.
May be required to move about to coordinate work.
Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed instructions to other workers.
Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Must have valid driver license.
Must be able to travel as needed for up to 14 consecutive days
